Water Testing

Chesapeake Exterminators, Inc. has personnel certified by the Maryland Department of the Environment to collect water samples. The collected samples are then analyzed by a State and Federally approved lab.

Please contact any of our offices for the required water tests you need for mortgage approval, or if you presently own a home and would like to know the quality of your drinking water.

What We Test For...
PH: PH is a indicator used to detect corrosiveness in fresh water. Carbon Dioxide dissolves and causes water to acquire properties of a mild acid. This will cause degradation in the plumbing system and fixtures.

IRON: High levels of iron in drinking water causes aesthetic problems such as staining of clothes, sinks and bath tubs.

NITRATES: In drinking water the primary source of organic nitrates include human sewage and livestock manure. Primary inorganic nitrates in drinking water potassium nitrate and ammonium nitrate. Potassium nitrates are mainly used as fertilizers (85%). Ammonium nitrates are also used as fertilizers (84%). Major release patterns of inorganic nitrates are due to the use of fertilizers.

CHLORIDE: There are no known toxic effects caused by high levels of chloride. But large amounts can be corrosive to metal pipes, and harmful to plants.

HARDNESS: Hard water consumes large quantities of soaps, forming curds and depositing film on hair, fabrics, glassware and auto paint.

TOTAL COLIFORM: Total Coliform in drinking water indicates that there may be a problem with water treatment or the pipes that carry water after treatment. If water treatment is not effective, or there is a problem with the pipes, then the presence of disease-causing organisms is likely.

FECAL COLIFORM/E. COLI: Fecal Coliform or E. Coli are more closely associated with human and animal intestines. They normally do not survive long outside the body. The presence of fecal coliform and E. Coli in drinking water indicates disease-causing organisms.

LEAD: Lead in the human body can cause serious damage to the brain, kidneys, nervous system, and red blood cells.
